Richmond, Indiana

One of our favorite shows in 2022, was the Southdown Association's Classic. The two day event held in Richmond, Indiana, is limited to only Southdowns and gives us a chance to visit closely with our peers while also competing in some incredibly deep competition. The show format has Show A where Champion and Reserve are named, and Show B the second day where a top five are named. As tradition has shown, the top five from this show have gone on to hang banners at the state and national level at shows like All American and North American, as well as State Fairs. If you are in the hunt at the Classic, you should be pretty well anywhere in the country.

Another unique aspect of the show is the team showmanship competition and the parents, breeders, and friends showmanship division, which is judged by the individual showmanship winners. The Junior Board does a phenomenal job of inclusion with this event, keeping the young kids involved and excited which is truly awesome. At the end of the evening the Association hosts a Pizza party and Cornhole Tournament.

To say we pack alot of fun in to a few days in a big understatement but somehow we find time to swim at the hotel and enjoy ourselves there as well.
The weekend gave us some pretty good information for where we might fall in the future events. Landrey did well with her KDK Fall ewe "Goldie", as well as her Burns Stock Farm wether "Boots". Additionally she was named champion Junior Showman, and her and her partner Ainsley Porter, teamed up to win their age break of the team competition. The team contest was awesome for us to witness as Abby Brown asked Lachlan to participate as her partner, and Mitchell Brown (Abby's Brother) teamed up with our Middle L Lynnly to make a great duo.
Lachlan was thrilled to participate in showmanship and the cornhole tourney and ranked those ring activitites only second to chasing his buddies around with squirt guns and walkie talkies, when we did our weekend recap.

We can't thank the Southdown Association, the Junior Board, and the folks we show with enough for making this a memorable weekend. Thank you to KDK Southdowns, Hired Hand Southdowns, Burns Stock Farm, and Oldenburg Farms for trusting us with their genetics.
Also we want to thank Johnson Family Show Stock for placing "Boots" with us from Burns Stock Farm.
If you are looking to add to your flock, buy a Southdown and come join in the fun with our family and the many amazing family's that make up the breed.
Our kids love the Classic, and can't wait to go back next year.
