North American Recap

It is really hard to put into words just how remarkable the 2021 North American Live Stock Expo was for the Krieger family.

Friday 11/12- Landrey kicked off the week in Louisville by achieving her goal and grabbing a dream. She has wanted to win Showmanship at NAILE and has been very close with 2nd place finishes in both 2019 and 2020. For 2021, "Stella" and Landrey were on from the word go. It has been so interesting to see the unspoken rivalry in the age group that Landrey is in. Over the last several years, the same three showmen have been in the top three. After choosing Landrey to win the class, Landrey went back in for the Champion Junior drive. Ephraim Fowler has been the gold standard for the younger age division of showmanship for many years and he was the clear winner. Landrey was so thrilled to be selected reserve. The hard work in the barn and small tweaks in practice truly came to fruition in the ring.

11/14 Southdown Jr. Show

"Oakley" was born in February of 2020. We were very anxious to see how she placed as "Oakley" had been in the hunt with the very best Southdown yearlings all season, finishing behind Drew George, and Maddie Hauger several times throughout the summer.

Oakley is; Oldenburg 0044 She is a Big League x Diesel Her mother was reserve champion NAILE in 2013 for Jaleigh Oldenburg.

"Oakley" looked the best we could have had her, but didn't quite make the cut, finishing eighth in her class.

"Pearl" our Oldenburg February ewe lamb found herself in a class of thirty-six tough sheep. We were thrilled to watch her stand fifth in the class behind some very tough competition.

"Stella" our Hired Hand April was in the late spring class. She was the youngest of the group but worked her way to a sixth-place finish in the class of twenty-two.

After all of the animals had been shown, we were really excited to have three in the top ten in the class. We had to wait a few days before the Open Show for the Southdowns as this year's schedule had downs going on Wednesday.

Wednesday 11/17

We kicked off our morning with tons of anticipation of how the Open Show would go for our Southdown's. After six full days, we are all tired and ready to pack up for home at the conclusion of the competition.

"Oakley" was the first one to show for us in the Early Yearling class. We were so thrilled to watch "Oakley" be selected to win the class. We had hoped she might stand competitively in Louisville and this just gave us some validation that what we thought we had, was real. It was awesome to see Landrey and "Oakley" standing in the Senior Champion drive.

The momentum kept rolling with "Pearl" improving on her fifth-place finish, moving to third in the early February class, and "Stella" moving up one spot to fifth-place in her spring class with Lynnly showing her.

All in all, it was a wonderful week. Landrey was second in her Junior Show class with her Dorset Advantage, fifth in the Open Show with her Johnson Family Show Stock March Hampshire, and ninth with her Shafer Show Stock March Hampshire. We were excited to get home, rest for a few weeks and get ready for the arrival of our lambs to start hitting the ground around Christmas/New Year.
